Investigative Intern Programme

Part-Time, As-Needed Positions

NTRLNK is opening four internship positions for individuals seeking to begin their professional path as Private Investigators in the State of Oregon. These opportunities provide genuine investigative experience under the supervision of a licensed investigator, supporting candidates as they progress from the Provisional PI Licence to full licensure.

About the Programme

This internship is suited to individuals who want structured, practical exposure to investigative work. Interns assist with active cases as required and gain familiarity with research methods, documentation, legal obligations, and professional investigative standards.

Typical duties may include:

  • Open-source and background research

  • Reviewing, organising, and preparing case documents

  • Supporting fieldwork when appropriate

  • Assisting with tasks related to digital, civil, and corporate investigations

Work hours vary according to case load and are scheduled strictly on an as-needed basis.

Licensing Requirements

Applicants must meet the eligibility standards of the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards & Training (DPSST) for the Provisional Private Investigator Licence.

All licensing costs and state fees are the responsibility of the intern.

NTRLNK provides supervision, guidance, and the professional structure required for interns to progress toward full investigator status.

Compensation

The internship itself is unpaid.
However, if auxiliary paid assignments arise and the intern is suitable for the work, those tasks will be compensated at the standard auxiliary-investigator rate.

Maritime Intelligence & Expert-Witness Consultant

Part-Time, As-Needed Position

NTRLNK is seeking an experienced maritime professional to provide specialised analysis, expert reports, and expert-witness testimony in matters involving vessel operations, maritime activity, and associated investigative issues. This role supports NTRLNK’s growing need for subject-matter expertise in maritime intelligence, vessel tracking, port operations, and maritime-related civil and criminal inquiries.

This is an as-needed consulting position for an individual with demonstrable maritime competence, strong analytical capability, and the ability to present findings in a clear, defensible manner suitable for legal proceedings.

Position Responsibilities

The Maritime Intelligence & Expert-Witness Consultant will assist with:

  • AIS (Automatic Identification System) analysis and vessel-movement reconstruction

  • Vessel ownership tracing, registry research, and flag-state documentation

  • Port-call verification and anomaly identification

  • Maritime risk assessments, including smuggling, contraband movement, and illegal fishing indicators

  • Review of maritime compliance, safety procedures, and operational records

  • Expert declarations, written reports, and courtroom testimony as required

  • Consultations on maritime incidents, near-misses, accidents, or insurance-related matters

Assignments vary by case and may require rapid evaluation, analysis of maritime data, and production of formal reports.

Required or Strongly Preferred Qualifications

Candidates should bring well-established maritime credentials from recognised civilian, academic, or military pathways. The following qualifications carry weight in litigation and expert-witness contexts:

Formal Degrees

  • B.S. or M.S. in Maritime Studies, Maritime Security, Maritime Affairs, Marine Transportation, Nautical Science, Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Oceanography, or related fields

  • J.D. or LL.M. with a focus in Admiralty/Maritime Law (highly valued for legal analysis)

Professional Maritime Licenses

  • U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC), particularly:

    • Master (any tonnage or limited tonnage)

    • Mate

    • Able Seaman (AB)

    • OUPV (“Six-Pack”) Operator

  • STCW certifications (internationally recognised and respected)

  • U.S. Navy or U.S. Coast Guard navigation, operations, or intelligence qualifications

  • Coast Guard marine safety, inspection, or investigative experience

Maritime Investigation & Intelligence Credentials

  • Certified Marine Investigator (CMI) – International Association of Marine Investigators (IAMI)

  • Marine Surveying, Marine Accident Investigation, Port State Control, or Maritime Security certifications (Lloyd’s Maritime Academy, IMCS, AMSA, etc.)

  • Demonstrated competence in OSINT collection and maritime data analysis

Compliance & Safety

  • ISM Code Auditor training

  • ISO 9001/14001 maritime-sector auditor qualifications

  • OSHA Maritime Safety (29 CFR Parts 1917/1918)

Candidates must be capable of producing written expert reports, supporting litigation, and providing testimony when required.

Compensation

This is a paid consulting position. Compensation is based on the complexity, urgency, and scope of the assignment. Court declarations, expert reports, depositions, and testimony are billed at established expert-witness rates.

Contracts & Client Liaison Manager

Full-Time Position | Salary: $120,000 – $145,000

NTRLNK is seeking a senior administrative professional to manage client billing, contract administration, and engagement coordination. This role supports the firm’s executive leadership by ensuring that engagements are properly documented, billed, and administered, while preserving clear boundaries between administrative functions and executive-led client communications.

The position is designed for an individual who excels in precision, discretion, and operational discipline within a professional-services environment.

Position Overview

The Billing & Client Contract Administrator is responsible for the administrative and financial management of client engagements. This includes billing oversight, retainer tracking, contract maintenance, and structured client coordination. All substantive investigative direction, strategy, and executive-level messaging remain under the authority of firm leadership.

This role functions as an internal stabiliser—ensuring that engagements are cleanly managed, properly documented, and operationally sound.

Organisational Context

Within NTRLNK, there are two designated positions of Billing & Client Contract Administrator to support operational continuity and workload separation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer client contracts, engagement letters, retainers, and amendments

  • Manage billing processes, invoicing schedules, and retainer balances

  • Track contractual terms, scope limitations, and administrative milestones

  • Maintain accurate and confidential engagement records

  • Coordinate administrative communications with clients as directed by leadership

  • Serve as a point of contact for scheduling, documentation, and billing inquiries

  • Support compliance with contractual, regulatory, and internal requirements

  • Liaise with legal counsel and accounting support when required

  • Ensure engagements remain within documented scope and billing parameters

Role Boundaries 

This position does not provide investigative direction, legal advice, or executive messaging.
All strategic communication, investigative conclusions, and client-facing representations are issued by executive leadership.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Legal Studies, or a related field

  • Demonstrated experience in billing, contract administration, or professional-services operations

  • Strong organisational and documentation skills

  • High level of discretion and professionalism

  • Familiarity with retainer-based or billable-services environments

  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent engagements with accuracy and discipline

Preferred Experience

  • Experience supporting executive-led firms or boutique professional practices

  • Background in legal, investigative, consulting, or regulated environments

  • Familiarity with invoicing systems, trust accounting, or compliance-driven workflows

Compensation

Salary range: $120,000 – $145,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
